Selangor Journal: Kohijrah assists hundreds of traders affected by floods
SHAH ALAM, Jan 25 — Almost 300 small traders affected by last year’s flood received assistance of up to RM100,000 from Koperasi Warga Hijrah Selangor Berhad (Kohijrah).
Its general manager Mohd Syukri Ismail said the assistance, in the form of business equipment, was donated by agencies and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to ensure the continuity of victims’ businesses.
He said equipment including canopies, gas stove burner, outdoor cooking stove stand, water containers/jars, rice containers, and portable lights, are being distributed in phases to the traders.
“As one of the agencies in charge of the flood aid distribution, we are grateful that many parties have come forward to provide this equipment to traders who have lost much, including their business equipment in the disaster,” he said.
Elaborating further, he said another 300 to 400 small traders are expected to be given the same assistance by the end of the year.
“We have the Kohijrah Shop, which provides business needs for entrepreneurs. As of today, we received many enquiries from agencies and NGOs that wish to help.
“Cooperation from the parties involved is important, as we want the assistance to be provided to the recipients in a transparent manner and with integrity, without having to go through middlemen,” he said.
